Mount Euro boost from Chelsea win

‘If you win any competition you gain confidence from it. Winning the Champions League, one of the biggest in club football, it means a lot. You do gain a lot of confidence and then from that I knew I was into going into Euro so we won it at a good time. It helps to carry on that confidence coming up to the first game and I am looking forward to it.’

If the 22-year-old is picked by Gareth Southgate to face Croatia tomorrow, it remains to be seen where he will be deployed and indeed which formation England will play, and Mount has discussed playing in two-man or a three-man midfield.

‘We’ve played different formations and through the ages I have played in different positions. When you’re in a two-man midfield you are a bit more defensive-minded. In a three you can maybe go a bit more attacking and try to get in the box and help the front three. Formation-wise, I can be versatile.
