Picking the Best Potential Real Madrid Lineup to Face Getafe in Their La Liga Opener on Sunday

Real Madrid kick off their 2018/19 La Liga campaign at home to Getafe on Sunday.

Los Blancos are looking to recover from a disappointing defeat to their Madrid rival Atletico in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday evening. New manager Julen Lopetegui will be under immense pressure this season and getting off to a winning start in the league will be absolutely imperative – especially at the Bernabeu.

Here’s a look at the best potential team which could lineup against Getafe.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Keylor Navas (GK) The biggest question mark will be whether Navas retains his place in goal over new signing Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian stopper is still acclimatising to life in Madrid, so this may be Navas’ last chance to impress.

Dani Carvajal (RB) – The undisputed right back at Real, Carvajal is expected to start as usual.

Raphael Varane (CB) – Will be looking to recover after an uncharacteristic mistake in extra-time during the Super Cup defeat.

Sergio Ramos (CB) – Scored a well taken penalty in the Super Cup and will no doubt continue to perform at the highest level again this season.

Marcelo (LB) – Consistently a top performer, Marcelo is set to remain as Real’s first choice left back for the foreseeable future.

2. Midfielders

Toni Kroos (CM) – The German kept the ball well as per usual against Atletico, but he’ll be looking to add a bit more in the final third.

Casemiro (CM) Such a key component in the midfield, no one else is able to break up opposition possession quite as well as the Brazilian.

Gareth Bale (RM) The main man following Ronaldo’s departure, he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet this season.

Marco Asensio (LM) When Luka Modric is back to match fitness, the youngster could be left out of the squad. He has to impress in this one to leave a doubt in Lopetegui’s mind.

Isco (AM) May have been lacking a little bit of match fitness in his last outing, but he should get the nod over Modric for now

3. Forward

Karim Benzema (ST) – The man who has benefited the most from the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema will be the first choice striker this season.

He got off to a decent start against Atletico when he scored a well taken header in the first half of the tie.
