Every Time Cristiano Ronaldo Has Played Against Man Utd Since Leaving in 2009

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to face Manchester United when Juventus visit Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday night, only the fourth time he has done so since leaving the club close to a decade ago.

Here’s a look back at the three previous occasions on which the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has lined up against his old club since 2009…

1. Champions League Last 16, February 2013

Four years after leaving, Ronaldo scored against United the first time he faced them after Sir Alex Ferguson’s team were paired with Real in the Champions League last 16 during the 2012/13 campaign.

Danny Welbeck actually scored the opening goal that night at the Bernabeu, but Ronaldo equalised for Real with a header not long afterwards to leave the tie level heading into the second leg the following month…

2. Champions League Last 16, March 2013

Ronaldo made his first ever appearance at Old Trafford as a visiting player when Real travelled to England for the return leg of the tie three weeks later.

Having drawn 1-1 in Madrid, United actually took the aggregate lead when Sergio Ramos scored an own goal. But the game changed when Nani was controversially sent off early in the second half, prompting a quick Real double when Luka Modric and Ronaldo himself.

3. UEFA Super Cup, August 2017

Ronaldo’s most recent game against his former club came just last year when Europa League winners United met Champions League winners Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup held in the Macedonian capital of Skopje.

He didn’t start the game, but did feature as a substitute for the final seven minutes plus stoppage time after replacing Karim Benzema. Real were already leading 2-1 at that stage thanks to goals from Casemiro and Isco, and the score line remained unchanged.

Ronaldo missed pre-season friendlies between United and Real Madrid played in the United States in the summers of 2014 and 2017.
