In his first full season at the club, Fiabema is joined on the shortlist by Isaac Fletcher (Middlesbrough), Joe Hugill (Man United), Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka (Sunderland), Cole Palmer (Man City) and Rhys Williams (Liverpool).
The shortlist was chosen by the Premier League Football Development panel after PL2 clubs’ coaches nominated the best performances by opposing players in each league fixture in October. The winner, also chosen by the panel, will be announced in due course.
In other Academy news, development squad defender Henry Lawrence has put pen-to-paper on a new deal at the club.
The 19-year-old has been a mainstay for the development squad for the past 18 months, featured for Frank Lampard’s senior side in the pre-season friendly against Reading, and was named on the bench for last season’s Champions League tie away at Bayern Munich.
An England Under-20 international, Lawrence made 30 Academy appearances last term and scored four goals, one being for the youth team in their run to the FA Youth Cup final and the remaining three for the development squad in Premier League 2. With seven appearances for Myers’s men already this term, the young defender has made a solid start to the new campaign.
