Azpilicueta remained on the bench with Atletico Madrid’s Marcos Llorente preferred at right-back. Spain play Poland on Saturday night.
Earlier on Monday, Scotland fell to defeat in their first game at a major tournament in 23 years.
They were beaten 2-0 by Czech Republic, for whom Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick scored either side of half-time. His second effort was a spectacular lob from 50 yards, while at the other end the Czechs, with former Blue Tomas Kalas in the heart of their defence, repelled everything Steve Clarke’s side threw at them.
Gilmour was unused for the Scots, whose next game is against England at Wembley on Friday night.
