Rising to the occasion – Cesar Azpilicueta’s headed goals

While he may not be the biggest of players, the Spanish defender has shown some good aerial ability in the opposition box during his Chelsea career with more than a quarter of his 14 goals for the Blues coming from headers.

Qarabag – Sep 2017

With Qarabag’s defenders focusing their attention on targetmen Gary Cahill, Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi as they defended a Chelsea free-kick from the right during a Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge, no one sensed the danger posed by Azpilicueta on the edge of the six-yard box.

It proved costly as the Spaniard ghosted into a position at the near post completely unmarked to meet Cesc Fabregas’ delicately chipped cross with a header which flew past the Qarabag goalkeeper for the third goal in our 6-0 thumping of the Azeri club.
