PHOTO: Angel Di Maria Jokes on Instagram About ‘Lucky’ Legends He Has Played Alongside

There’s no doubting Angel Di Maria has had a pretty illustrious career to date.

Starting out at Rosario Central, his form earned him a move to Benfica before Real Madrid came calling, while he now plays for French giants Paris Saint-Germain after a brief spell at Manchester United.

Also an Argentina international, the 29-year-old has played alongside some legendary players, and took to Instagram to joke about how lucky some of his current and former teammates have been to play with him.

Di Maria posted picture of himself with various legends of the modern game, captioning the photo: “How lucky were these guys”.

Di Maria spent a season playing alongside Swedish icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG, another solitary campaign with United’s leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney, having more prolonged spells with Argentina colleague Lionel Messi and ex-Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and recently welcoming Neymar to the Parc des Princes.

While Di Maria himself may not have reached the status of some his current and former teammates, he has still had a successful career, winning league titles in Portugal, Spain and France and also picking up a runners-up medal at the 2014 World Cup.

Real Madrid Boss Zinedine Zidane Teases Possibility of New Signings

Zinedine Zidane has declined to rule out the possibility of making some new signings before the current transfer window closes in two weeks’ time.

Real Madrid are arguably the best team in club football at the moment, having scooped the 2016/17 Spanish league title and stormed to a third Champions League trophy in four years.

UEFA Super Cup - Previews

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to reach incredible levels of performance, whilst the team’s midfield trio of Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric have all emerged as world class talents.

They also had incredible strength in depth last season, but have since cashed in on Danilo and Alvaro Morata, meaning they are sitting on almost £100m from those sales alone and definitely have cash to burn.

Madrid-based football writer Dermot Corrigan tweeted on Tuesday: “Zidane: ‘I am very happy with the squad I have. But as I always say, until the 31st anything can happen. I don’t control this’.”

The comments will likely excite those Real fans who are hoping to see their club sign Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe, who has surprisingly stayed put so far as his teammates around him move to pastures new.

Los Blancos have only signed Theo Hernandez from neighbours Atletico Madrid and Dani Ceballos from Real Betis so far, but there is expectation that Zidane will attempt to test Monaco’s resolve over Mbappe in the next two weeks.

Borussia Dortmund’s Nuri Sahin Reveals What Jurgen Klopp Said Before Real Madrid Move

Borussia Dortmund’s Nuri Sahin has revealed former manager Jurgen Klopp was supportive of his move to Real Madrid.

The Turkey international joined Los Blancos in 2011 after an impressive season with Dortmund and says Klopp told him he would support any decision the midfielder made.

Sahin told the Players’ Tribune: “After we won the Bundesliga in 2011, I got a text from my agent.

FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-DORTMUND-MAINZ

“Hey Nuri, Real Madrid wants you.

“It’s kind of funny that it just happened like that. Through a text. It wasn’t like you imagine when you’re a kid.

“I had heard my name mentioned in transfer rumours before, but never with Real Madrid. And now, here they were. The white kits, the Bernabeu, the history. And I remembered the promise that I’d made to myself all those years ago.

Olympique de Marseille v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Champions League

“There was a part of me that wanted to say ‘no’. Dortmund had given me so much – how could I leave them? It was hard to think about. I lost sleep. I talked for hours with my wife and family.

“But I had to speak with Dortmund’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, before I could decide. I will remember our conversation forever. ‘Nuri, it is your choice,’ he told me. ‘But if you leave, you must know, I will always be on your side. You are my friend forever.’

FC Bayern Muenchen v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga

‘”If I stay,’ I said, ‘I will think about life in Madrid. I will be in Dortmund physically, but mentally… I’ll be lost. I couldn’t live like that.’ And I told him that I only had one life to live – that I didn’t want to regret any part of it.

“Jurgen understood, and he told me to follow my heart. A few hours later, I announced my decision.”

Sahin made just 10 appearances for Madrid during his one season at the club, having loan spells at Liverpool and Dortmund before returning permanently to his former club in 2014, while Klopp is now managing Liverpool.

Cristiano Ronaldo Hit With 5-Game Ban After Pushing Referee During Spanish Super Cup

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a five-game domestic ban after he was seen to have pushed referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea during Sunday night’s Spanish Super Cup first leg against Barcelona.

Ronaldo had already been given his marching orders from the game after receiving a second yellow card for an alleged dive, leading him to visibly push Bengoetxea.

FBL-ESP-SUPERCUP-BARCELONA-REALMADRID

According to the Spanish federation’s regulations, Ronaldo could have been facing a much longer suspension of up to 12 games.

The Spanish federation chose to issue a four-game ban for the push in addition to the one-game suspension for the initial red card, bringing the total number of fixtures he’ll miss to five.

A five-game ban is the minimum threshold for the suspension to apply for all domestic competitions in Spain. Had the 32-year-old been given a lesser ban it would only have seen him ruled out of future Super Cup games.

Cristiano’s Strike in Super Cup Means He’s Now Ahead of Messi in Another Intriguing Stat

Two of the biggest stars in world football were neck-in-neck for another accolade, and Ronaldo took the lead in it last night – he has now passed Messi in scoring more goals at Camp Nou in the El Clasico encounters.

Lionel Messi scored his 10th goal in the illustrious fixture from the penalty spot, levelling up with Ronaldo, only for the Portuguese international to come off the bench and score his 11th, putting him one ahead of Messi on his own turf.

Ronaldo’s celebrations were however cut short after being shown a second yellow card for allegedly diving. His first yellow came as a result of his over-the-top topless celebration after scoring his goal at Camp Nou.

The Real Madrid hitman could be in for further punishment after he seemed to have pushed the referee in the back after he was given the red card. The social media rumour mill is saying Ronaldo is set to serve a five-match ban.

Madrid take a 3-1 first leg lead into Wednesday’s Spanish Super Cup deciding encounter. They will be without Ronaldo for the tie and will be hoping that it’s the only game that he’s suspended for.

The Ascendance of Asensio: Why Real Madrid’s Wonderkid Is the Player to Look Out for This Season

Once every so often, a player emerges onto the scene that makes you think: “Gosh, he can play.” But a lot of the time they don’t really live up to the hype and disappear without so much as a whimper.

There are a select few, however, that make it out of the water. Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio is right now that player that’s swimming with sharks, but has a bite of his own.

Making a name for himself under Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid dynasty and quickly rising through the ranks with Spain’s national side, Asensio is fast becoming a superstar.

At 21 years old, you’d probably think you ought to have heard about this kid years ago as a football prodigy. But no one outside of Real Madrid did – he quietly signed for Los Blancos in 2014 from Mallorca and had two loan spells, one back to Mallorca and another to Espanyol.

FBL-EURO-2017-U21-ESP-MKD

His first real emergence for Real Madrid came at the start of the 2016/17 campaign in the European Super Cup where he struck his first senior goal for Madrid from 28 yards, rifling the top corner. Since then he’s been in and out of the first team, but under Zidane he has made more frequent appearances, albeit mainly off the bench.

He ended his 2017 campaign with a goal in the Champions League final as he helped Madrid to become the first team in the modern era to successfully defend Europe’s most illustrious trophy. But Asensio didn’t stop there. He was the talisman in Spain’s Under-21 side that went to the finals of the European Championship. His first game in the tournament? He scored a hat-trick.

He is now looking at the 2017/18 campaign with a drive to be Zidane’s most prized possession. His current contract has a £72m buy-out clause, which is being monitored by the giants of European football.

But performances in pre-season and in the first competitive El Clasico of the season have already got the Madrid board itching to tie Asensio down for the foreseeable future. He showed flashes of his dynamic approach to the game in crucial ties in Madrid’s Champions League campaign – including a solo goal against Bayern Munich.

It’s hard enough to make a name for yourself at a club that boasts players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. But every time he’s come on, Asensio has left a lasting impression on everyone.

” style=”” contenteditable=”false”>

One of the hottest talents in world football, the 21-year-old Spanish international will soon become a top target for all of the world’s top sides. This is a big season for Asensio; he’s been demanding a starting role in Madrid’s modern day Galacticos and now he’ll need to show Zidane and the rest of the world – Asensio is the present and future.

Barcelona 1-3 Real Madrid: Los Blancos Claim the Bragging Rights in First Leg of Spanish Super Cup

With Barcelona lining up for the first time without €222m talisman Neymar, Real Madrid capitalised on Barca’s transfer misfortune to claim victory in the first leg of the Supercopa de España.

Luis Suárez had an early chance for Barcelona after breaking away from the Real Madrid defence – however, he was forced to take a shot on his weaker foot and Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas comfortably saved.

FBL-ESP-SUPERCUP-BARCELONA-REALMADRID

Real Madrid’s first real chance of the game came after 17 minutes. Spanish midfielder Isco showed incredible footwork to gain half a yard on the Barcelona defender before dragging a shot narrowly wide of Marc-André ter Stegen’s goal.

Gareth Bale also tested the German international goalkeeper later in the first half, forcing the former Borussia Mönchengladbach star into a smart save.

Despite an obvious dominance in possession, Barcelona were clearly still finding their feet after Neymar’s departure and stand in winger Gerard Deulofeu was unable to impose himself in the remainder of the first half.

FBL-ESP-SUPERCUP-BARCELONA-REALMADRID

Less than five minutes after the restart, Real Madrid found a way past Ter Stegen thanks to an own goal from Spanish international Gerard Piqué. Marcelo found some space down the wing for Madrid and after fizzing a low cross into the box, Piqué diverted the ball past his keeper.

The goal spurred Barcelona into action and they nearly levelled the score just minutes later through Deulofeu. The Catalan side could have then conceded, and, but for a goal line clearance from Jordi Alba, Dani Carvajal would have doubled Madrid’s advantage.

FC Barcelona v Real Madrid - Supercopa de Espana: 1st Leg

Second half substitute Cristiano Ronaldo was able to squeeze the ball past Ter Stegen in the Barcelona goal, however, celebrations were halted after the linesman raised his flag after the Portuguese star strayed offside.

Barcelona were gifted the opportunity to level the scores with just over 10 minutes remaining after Suárez was adjudged to have been brought down by Keylor Navas inside the penalty area. Messi stepped up to take the spot kick and sent Navas the wrong way, cancelling out Madrid’s advantage.

Madrid restored their lead almost immediately through Ronaldo. After an outstanding counter attack, Ronaldo cut inside onto his right foot and fired the ball into the top corner. The Portuguese star foolishly received a booking during his celebration, something that just three minutes later Ronaldo would pay for.

Tussling with French defender Samuel Umtiti, Ronaldo was given his marching orders after he was adjudged to have simulated contact in search of a penalty. It looked a harsh decision.

“>

Wonderkid Marco Asensio then put the icing on the cake for Real Madrid after crashing the ball into the back of the net, in an almost mirrored manner to Ronaldo’s strike just 10 minutes earlier.

Breaking down Barcelona’s left, Asensio beat Ter Stegen at his near post to give Real Madrid a comfortable lead going into the second leg on Wednesday.

Gareth Bale Hires Ex-SAS Minders to Guard Home in Wales After Fiancee’s Dad Is Released From Prison

Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale has spent £500,000 on putting security measures in place at his family home in Wales, after his fiancee’s dad was released from prison.

53-year-old Martin Rhys-Jones has been doing time in the US after receiving a five-year sentence for being found guilty of worldwide investment fraud, which has seen him make a number of enemies, as reported by the Sun.

UEFA Super Cup - Previews

Rhys-Jones has been released early for good behaviour and ‘finding God’, and now Bale and his wife-to-be Emma are concerned for the family’s safety.

His half-a-million pound outlay includes security officers, guard dogs and a high-tech surveillance system to give the family peace of mind following Rhys-Jones’ release.

It is not the first time Gareth and Emma have had concerns for theirs and their family’s safety – Emma’s grandparents and other relatives were ‘firebombed’ after getting caught up in a drugs vendetta.

They were promptly advised to step up security at their Glamorgan home and their property in Madrid and a relative of the couple said: “Gareth is very worried by what’s been going on.”

The 28-year-old has been in Madrid for the past four years now following his then-world record transfer from Tottenham to Real Madrid for £85m, and was recently linked with a move back to England in the form of Manchester United.

PHOTO: Doting Dad Ronaldo Shares Adorable Picture of Recent Addition to Ever-Growing Family

Cristiano Ronaldo has been spending his time wisely this summer following a hectic year that saw him claim a number of prestigious honours.

He now has three children, including five-year-old Cristiano Jr, with a fourth on the way with girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, as confirmed by the star in an interview on July 18.

3 Key Battles That Could Decide the Spanish Super Cup First Leg Between Barcelona & Real Madrid

Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona team plays host to bitter rivals Real Madrid at the Nou Camp on Sunday evening, as the new Blaugrana manager makes his competitive debut in Spanish Super Cup.

The Catalan giants come into the game on the back of the bitter loss of superstar Neymar to Paris St Germain for a world record fee of £198m, and will hope to prove that there is life after the Brazilian in the first clasico of the new season.

Los Blancos, meanwhile, come into the game on a high having added the European Super Cup to their coffers with a midweek victory over Manchester United, and will hope to take steps towards adding yet another trophy to their cabinet on Sunday.

1. Aleix Vidal vs Cristiano Ronaldo

n

Vidal has managed to work his way into Barca manager Valverde’s thinking with a series of impressive pre-season displays, keeping new  €32m signing Nelson Semedo out of the side in recent games.

He will face his stiffest test yet on Sunday however, as he comes up against arguably the world’s best player in Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese will be fresh having featured late against United in midweek, and can be expected to probe Vidal at every given opportunity.

2. Gerard Deulofeu vs Dani Carvajal

n

Whilst not the superstar name we have become accustomed to in this glamorous fixture, how returning La Masia graduate Gerard Deulofeu fares in his battle with established Spanish international Dani Carvajal could go some way towards deciding who edges this game.

Following the activation of his buyback clause from Everton, Deulofeu hit the ground running on his return with a goal and an assist against Brazilian side Chapecoense, and will hope to further stake his claim against one of the world’s best right backs.

3. Luis Suarez vs Raphael Varane

FBL-ESP-LIGA-BARCELONA-REALMADRID

Probably the world’s best player not named Messi or Ronaldo, Luis Suarez will look to continue his outstanding form of last season by scoring against his team’s greatest rivals.

His 29 goals and 13 assists kept Barcelona in the hunt for La Liga last time out, and the absence of Neymar will provide him greater influence over the team.

Varane, meanwhile, comes into his first season as an undisputed starter with the sternest of tests, and how he fares against Suarez could set the tone for the rest of his season.

4. Andres Iniesta vs Toni Kroos

n

A dream battle of midfield dynamo’s, in Luka Modric’ absence the battle for supremacy in the middle of the park between Kroos and Iniesta will hold even more significance in this game.

Despite being on the wrong side of thirty, Iniesta has been somewhat dominant in recent displays against Los Blancos, and Kroos will hope to turn the tide in a manner that befits his form in recent years.

Let’
